PDC & Young Audience of Houston

Psophonia is committed to providing quality art in education programs to the children in our community through our partnership with Young Audiences of Houston (YAH).  This partnership allow PDC to offer dance residencies and performances to students from elementary to high school with an emphasis on arts in education curriculum. Since 2008, Psophonia conducted numerous dance residencies for schools in Houston ISD, Spring ISD, Pasadena ISD and Katy ISD.

2016 Residencies:

  • Roberts Elementary - Musical Theater Program

  • Whittier Elementary & Wainwright Elementary - Arts for Learning

  • Pearl Hall Elementary - After School Dance

Why use movement to reinforce learning? Psophonia has  been a long supporter of art based learning.  Through our residencies and in-school performances we hope to encourage  more movement based activities as a means of inspiring learning.  According to author and education advocate, Eric Jensen, “The brain is a system of systems and a strong kinesthetic arts program will activate multiple systems.  Using the body means using more of the brain than we typically use for seatwork.”  Highly complex movements, such as those found in dance, activate a large part of the brain.
